Jennifer R. Parker, Art Therapist and Muralist, was contracted by Ozanam in Kansas City, Missouri to create murals with at-risk adolescent residents using the Sanctuary model. The Sanctuary model is to help trauma-informed care patients through their trauma experiences to live a healthy life. Ozanam Art Therapist, Janice Mead, LPC, ATR-BC, assisted with the collaboration of the project and design. The residents helped with the design and painting process. Twelve murals were completed together within a six month period. The murals provided a more comfortable environment for the resident to receive treatment and helped enhance therapeutic communication between the residents and therapeutic staff.
